Pacific Rim National Park

Pacific Rim, Ucluelet

Just minutes from the outskirts of Ucluelet, Pacific Rim National Park offers both outdoor and indoor educational programs, an interpretive centre at Wickaninnish Beach, and excellent Vancouver Island hiking through rainforests and along long scenic beaches. You can spend days in the Long Beach Unit of the park, then take a voyage into the famous Broken Group Islands Unit to visit an archipelago of islands that will live forever in your heart.

Wildlife also abounds around the Pacific Rim and Ucluelet. From whales and bears to eagles and sea lions, you will enjoy meeting many west coast creatures.

You can spend days exploring Pacific Rim National Park's beaches and trails. If you're planning a day trip to Tofino, consider bringing a bike and riding along the scenic Pacific Rim Highway. You can get off the highway and onto a bike path at various points between Ucluelet and Tofino. It is also possible to use bikes on beaches, but trails are reserved for foot traffic only.

One of Canada's Treasures

Canada's national parks represent different regions of Canada.
Pacific Rim National Park Reserve represents the coastal lowland forests of the Pacific Coast Mountain region, and the nearshore waters of Vancouver Island's marine region.

Imagine sand between your toes, eagles soaring overhead, ferns, and cushions of moss hanging from the branches of towering Sitka spruce, and the ocean stretching off as far as the eye can see. Do you begin to sense the value of this place? This national park is one of Canada's treasures, a treasure worth preserving.

On its own, Parks Canada can't protect or conserve the country's national parks. Parks Canada needs everyone's help.

Activities outside a park influence everything within that park. Perhaps the Nuu-chah-nuulth First Nations of this area say it best with the word, "Hishuk-ish ts'awalk". This means "everything is one", a concept as important and timeless as the air we breathe and the water we drink.
